Happy Holidays

Dear Conservative Christians,

Please try to understand that if I happen to wish you a “happy holidays” I am not actively trying to deny the existence of The Christ your Lord, or in any way detract from the significance of the celebration of his birth.  Rather, I am merely being polite by not assuming that everyone in America is Christian.  There are, in fact, many holidays that take place this time of year, many religious, some secular, and many of them not Christian.  My wish of happy holidays is just that, a wish that whichever holiday(s) you choose to celebrate are happy.

Frankly I think you know this.  I think you know this and just don’t care.  As far as you are concerned Hanukah, Kwanza, and Ramadan are just false religion nonsense.  But since your intolerance of multi-culturalism wouldn’t go over well in the mainstream media you repackage yourselves as the victims of a “War on Christmas”.  I call shenanigans.  Shenanigans I say!  There are other religions with holidays.  Deal with it.

Hey, Paul. I can't speak for all conservative Christians, of course, but for my own part, I'm not bothered by "Happy Holidays." What does bug me is "holiday tree," "holiday stocking," referring to Christmas as "the holiday" (which seems terribly rude in its dismissal of other holidays, as well as in its denial of what Christmas actually is), etc.

Don't hate us!

Dear malls and other places that put up decorations and shit: If you're going to put up a big tree 'round December 25th, just call it a friggin' Christmas tree. You're not fooling anyone. If you can't call it that, DON'T PUT UP A TREE. That's just gross hypocrisy. Seek other decorative venues! If that means less trees, then so be it. Just have some balls.

Love, Jeff
